Jean has worked as a Rural Housing Enabler (RHE) in Buckinghamshire since 2003 and her work helps sustain parishes by enabling the provision of affordable homes that remain in perpetuity for the use of the villages. Over the past 11 years she has enabled the building of over 200 new affordable rural homes.
Her responsibilities include raising awareness of issues surrounding affordable housing with local communities and working with local communities and parish councils to assess local housing needs. If a need is established Jean then continues working with landowners and parish councils to identify potential sites for development. She liaises with relevant organisations including local housing and planning authorities and housing associations in order to ensure development is targeted to the areas of greatest need. Jean also worked with Chiltern District Council one day a week to identify long term empty properties and make contact and work with the owners to try and bring them back into use. Over an 8 year period she brought over 270 long-term empty homes back into use. In 2012 Jean set up our Neighbourhood Development Planning (NDP) service partnering with planning specialists rCOH to work with parishes that want to produce their own NDP or Community Right to Build order. Jean lived and worked in various Middle Eastern countries for many years before moving on to Spain in the 1980s where she ran her own estate agency in the market town of Begur. On her return to the UK she opened a residential lettings agency based in south and west London. She has also set up the Charity Challenge department for Kuoni Travel and worked and travelled as a tour leader on their expeditions including trekking and canoeing through the Amazon basin and cycling Sri Lanka - a far cry from affordable housing.
