About the Community of Practice sessions
The Health Inequalities Community of Practice is a regular forum for people working or volunteering on the ‘frontline’ in health, social care and support organisations who have a common interest in supporting people in Aylesbury experiencing health inequalities.
The Community of Practice is a safe space for those working directly with people in the Aylesbury area to learn from each other, share knowledge, ask questions and explore solutions to benefit local people based in day-to-day practice.
Who should attend
Communities of Practice are for social workers, community nurses, community pharmacists, social prescribers, health and wellbeing coaches, care navigators, mental health practitioners, advice workers, advocacy providers, social support workers, outreach workers as well as staff and volunteers in foodbanks, faith-based or community organisations and anyone addressing homelessness, substance misuse, or supporting refugees and asylum seekers. This list is not exhaustive.
This is not a forum for managers or CEOs, but a space encouraging open discussion between those working directly with communities. Individuals will learn from each other, share knowledge, ask questions and explore solutions that will benefit local people.
Focus for November and December forums
The November sessions of our Health Inequalities Communities of Practice will explore the use of trauma-informed and trauma-based approaches in providing support to people experiencing health inequalities. This was one of the topics suggested by participants at previous sessions.
We are pleased to have expert speakers from the Sexual Assault and Abuse Support Service (Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes) who will explore what a trauma-based approach entails and how it can be valuable in addressing a wide range of health-related issues.
Future forums
Future Community of Practice topics include insight into Gypsy, Roma, Traveller communities, and alcohol and substance abuse and addiction.
