Community transport schemes

There are over 50 community transport schemes operating in and around Buckinghamshire, carrying out journeys for essential appointments and social activities for those who are unable to access other options such as public or private transport. If you are part of a community transport team, are looking to set up a new scheme, or are interested in becoming a volunteer driver, we offer a range of advice and support.

01. Our support for Bucks community transport schemes

We give free tailored support and advice to the county’s community transport schemes which are up and running. Examples of the advice we have given in the past includes:

  • Developing needs assessments and online surveys
  • Provision of exemplar policies, role descriptions, induction packs
  • Support with volunteer recruitment
  • Processing of DBS applications and document verification service
  • Specialist one-to-one advice sessions

We are also able to help communities set up a transport scheme to cover their area. For more information about this service, contact Nosh Fiaz on 01844 617300 or email transport@communityimpactbucks.org.uk.

02. Recruiting volunteer drivers

Most community transport schemes are volunteer-led so it is important that you have all the resources you need to be able to recruit volunteer drivers. You will need to think about:

  • Putting together a detailed role description – visit our Developing and advertising volunteer roles for more information.
  • DBS checks – we can process DBS applications and carry out document verification for your volunteer drivers for free.
  • Training – if your scheme uses a minibus, volunteers will need to have safeguarding training. Visit our Policies page for more support with safeguarding.

The Forums take place once every quarter and are open to all new or existing community transport schemes, or those who have an interest in community transport. See our Training and events page for upcoming forums.
