The Oasis Partnership

The Oasis Partnership is a charity which has been providing specialist drug and alcohol support services across Buckinghamshire since 1984. It offers a wide range of recovery-focused support options, aiming to help individuals to address their drug or alcohol problems and get their lives back on track. Jax Weir, Volunteer Co-ordinator, discusses the benefits that have been gained from her attending one of CIB’s FREE Finding & Supporting Volunteers’ advice surgeries.

We have been working alongside Community Impact Bucks for a number of years, receiving support, guidance and training. At one of the CIB volunteer advice surgeries we talked about getting some of our volunteer roles on www.Do-it.org – the national volunteer recruitment website.

After registering The Oasis Partnership on Do-it, and adding a few of our volunteer roles, we had contact from people who were interested in supporting with volunteering at STARS. This was a fantastic result, and we were so pleased that Do-it was working for us.

One of the volunteers we were looking for was a caretaker/janitor. Our main buildings, which are based in Aylesbury and High Wycombe, were desperately in need of a someone to take on this kind of role.

The role was just what Do-it applicant Michael was looking for; there were a number of reasons he was looking for this kind of role, and since joining our team he has settled in beautifully, and is a pleasure to work with.

It didn’t take long before Michael was offered a part-time paid role in a local school in a similar role. We are lucky enough that Michael still wants to continue volunteering with us one day a week. This role makes a huge difference to the service, and hopefully provides Michael with the confidence and up-to-date work experience needed to move forward.
