Volunteer Managers’ Network: Effective Ways of Recruiting and Motivating Volunteers
The impact of the pandemic has influenced all of us in the way we work including how we recruit and motivate volunteers. This, together with the increasing demand for volunteers, has presented a number of challenges for volunteer managers.
At our next Volunteer Managers’ Network event on 26th May 2022 (10 – 11.30am) we have invited Vicky Royal, Team Lead for Befriending Services from Buckinghamshire Mind, to talk about her experience of effective ways of recruiting and motivating volunteers, particularly in the context of the pandemic and hybrid support.
During the session, attendees will have the chance to ask Vicky questions as well as share experiences, good practice, and ideas amongst fellow volunteer managers. We will explore the various avenues for recruiting volunteers and how to retain and keep them motivated.
Who should attend?
Anyone (paid/unpaid) involved with recruiting/managing volunteers for charities, community groups or social enterprises that deliver services in Buckinghamshire. Whether you’re new in your role with lots of questions, or experienced and looking to exchange fresh ideas you are welcome.
Please note that the event is for organisations whose beneficiaries are in Buckinghamshire and priority will be given to organisations with a turnover of £100,000 or below. Spaces are limited to one representative from each organisation.
Guest speaker: Vicky has worked with Buckinghamshire Mind for 18 years and has spent most of this time with the Operational Management team as a Team Lead for Befriending Services, Wellbeing groups and Peer support. She has overseen the Befriending Service through various periods of change, ensuring that effective staffing, volunteer recruitment and robust processes have been in place to maximise positive outcomes and meet challenges head on. Volunteer recruitment has been a major challenge and the pandemic has seen huge shifts in the volunteer landscape as services have transitioned and scaled up to meet demand and life has changed for so many.
Your facilitator: Lew Headley (VCSE and Community Development Officer at Community Impact Bucks) has a background in working with children and families and mentoring young people. He has extensive experience in training volunteers, recruiting trustees, setting up small community projects, and supporting volunteers.
Feedback from past attendees:
“The extent of information shared was very good; the presentations were very good; and the opportunity to ask questions again were very good.”
“It’s nice to have a reminder as easy to get a little complacent.”
“I find these sessions a great source of support in managing a new volunteer service and always come away with something to think about and put in place.”
How to book: The event will be held on Zoom on Thursday 26th May from 10.00am to 11.30am. If you are unable to attend, we will be operating a waiting list and will email the recording of the main group discussion and any resources shared after the event.
