Many Voices – Working Together – With Purpose: how to get involved in Trustees’ Week 2023 in Buckinghamshire

Trustees' Week 2023 (6-10 November) brings together the charitable community to thank trustees who volunteer their time to help lead and guide not-for-profit organisations.

As well as being a chance to acknowledge the efforts of our trustees, it is also an opportunity for charities and community groups to showcase their work, boost trustee recruitment, and hear about resources and training for trustees.

‘Many Voices – Working Together – With Purpose’ – how diverse is your board?

The theme this year is ‘Many Voices – Working Together – With Purpose’, emphasising the importance of diversity on a board.  Each trustee brings their own strengths, perspectives, and life stories and it is these collective voices which shape the decisions that steer local charities. Have a look at Getting on Board’s training on diversity during Trustees’ Week and check out the Board Diversity resources on Community Impact Bucks’ website.

Carry out a skills audit of your board

Reach Volunteering has a useful Skills Audit Tool to help you understand your board’s current mix of skills and experience, and identify the gaps you may have – thereby highlighting the skills you need to prioritise for you next trustee.  Find more information about the Skills Audit..

Boost your trustee recruitment

“In recruiting new trustees, charities tend to rely on personal links” Trustee research for Charity Commission (March 2023)).

If you would like ideas on how develop and advertise your board volunteer roles to help build a more diverse board or committee, look at our online resources on how to develop and advertise your roles, or complete the Request Support Form and one of the team will get back to you.

Thanking your trustees

Trustees (board volunteers) give their time and skills for free to make sure a charity is running well and is doing what it was set up to do. As well as thanking them directly, tell us about your trustees as well – why they got involved in volunteering and how their skills make a difference to your cause. We will be sharing Buckinghamshire trustees’ stories through the week to say thank you but also to inspire others. Tag us on Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin and Instagram, or email comms@communityimpactbucks.org.uk
